Description
This German porcelain charger features a circular form with a scalloped rim decorated with relief-molded scrollwork. The front of the plate is hand-painted with four clusters of purple violets and green leaves set against a blended pastel ground that transitions from celadon green at the border to pale yellow in the center. The reverse of the plate bears several green underglaze marks including the cursive script Hutschenreuther above Selb. A central oval device contains a walking lion above the letters LHS, with BAVARIA and GERMANY printed below. The pattern name SYLVIA is printed in block capitals at the bottom. The front of the plate is signed Zenobia ’63 in green paint near one of the floral sprays.
Condition report:
The porcelain plate shows no visible chips, cracks, or repairs in the provided photographs. The hand-painted floral decoration and tinted ground remain vibrant and show no significant wear (photos 1, 4). A few minute dark inclusions or specks are visible under the glaze within the green border area (photo 1). The relief details on the rim are sharp and undamaged.
