Vintage Handmade Multicolor Crochet Granny Square Afghan Bedspread
Description
A large rectangular handmade afghan blanket constructed using traditional crochet granny square motifs. The textile is composed of approximately 216 individual squares arranged in a 12 by 18 grid. Each square features three inner rounds worked in variegated yarn across four distinct colorways: blue and white; orange, yellow, and white; pink, magenta, and white; and green, yellow, and white. These centers are framed and joined by a final round of solid black yarn. The blanket is finished with a simple black scalloped crochet border along all four edges. The material is a synthetic yarn, consistent with acrylic or an acrylic blend. No maker marks, manufacturer labels, or identification tags are present on the item. Item needs slight repair. Condition report:
The textile is in good vintage condition. Minor surface pilling is present across the piece (photo 1). Several loose yarn ends are visible at the joinery points and within the squares (photo 2). Moderate tension-related stretching is visible where the individual squares are joined (photo 2). No holes, significant stains, or structural failures are observed.
