Description
A single antique utilitarian stoneware jug, commonly associated with the beehive or whiskey jug style, featuring a roughly cylindrical body, rounded shoulder, and flared rim. The exterior displays a characteristic light tan/gray speckled salt glaze. The interior is finished with a dark brown glaze, consistent with Albany slip. The front of the vessel is decorated with a hand-painted cobalt blue capacity numeral ‘5’ beneath a decorative scrollwork or flourish, indicating a five-gallon capacity. The jug is fitted with two small applied lug handles located high on the body.
