Description

A ceramic wall niche or sconce attributed to Puerto Rican Pottery, consistent with the studio work of Hal Lasky during the mid-20th century (circa 1950s-1960s). This single piece is constructed of heavily potted earthenware, featuring an elongated, arched form designed to function as a sconce, utilizing a raised interior pedestal suitable for holding a small candle or incense cone. The exterior is coated in a mottled gray and white glaze, accented by incised, cross-hatched decoration. The interior is finished with a pale yellow/green glaze and features four small holes piercing the back panel, likely for mounting or ventilation. The unglazed reddish-brown terracotta base is incised with the text Puerto Rican Pottery. Approximately 7″ tall.
