Lot 107:
Description
A single glazed ceramic figural sculpture identified through market consensus as Shiwan Mud men pottery. The piece depicts two seated East Asian figures engaged in a board game, likely Go or Weiqi. The figure on the left is portrayed as an elder with a white beard, wearing a speckled blue glaze robe, and is shown pointing toward the game surface. Opposite him, the second figure wears a glossy white glaze robe and leans contemplatively on his hand. The low, organically shaped table is finished in a dark brown glaze. Three small, rounded game pieces are visible on the playing surface. The sculpture employs variegated and glossy glazes characteristic of decorative Shiwan ceramics. No maker’s marks or inscriptions are visible. Measures approximately 3.5″x 5″.
