B. Bond Ceramic Dutch Clog Decorative Planter
Description
A ceramic decorative item modeled in the form of a Dutch clog or sabot. The piece is finished in a matte, pale greenish-gray glaze and features an incised cursive signature on the underside reading B. Bond, identifying the work of American studio potter Betty Bond. The exterior is decorated with hand-incised foliate and floral patterns, including stylized leaves and clusters of dots. These incised lines are highlighted with a dark pigment wash that has been rubbed into the recesses to provide contrast. The interior is hollowed, making the piece suitable for use as a small planter or catch-all.
Condition report:
The piece shows signs of general surface wear and accumulated grime, particularly within the hollow interior and in the recessed areas of the incised decoration (photo 1). There are no large chips, cracks, or visible signs of professional restoration (photos 1 and 2).
