Two Vintage Steel Handsaws Including a Challenger All-Purpose Model
Description
This lot comprises two full-size vintage steel handsaws. The first saw features a steel blade with a black composite handle secured by three silver-toned fasteners. A screen-printed logo on the center of the blade reads Challenger in script characters with the words ALL-PURPOSE HANDSAW printed in smaller block letters below. The second saw is constructed with a steel blade and a light-toned wooden handle secured by three brass-toned nuts. A rectangular yellowed adhesive label is fixed to the upper portion of the blade near the handle, though the characters are not legible. No other maker marks or etches are visible on the steel of the wooden-handled saw.
Condition report:
Both saws exhibit significant surface oxidation and rust across the entirety of the blades (photo 1). The composite handle on the Challenger saw shows minor scuffing and wear from use. The wooden handle on the second saw shows staining, wear, and minor splintering at the edges consistent with age (photo 1). The teeth appear intact on both blades but have not been tested for sharpness or straightness.
