Antique China Head Doll in Red Gingham Dress
Description
An antique china head doll featuring a glazed porcelain shoulder head and lower limbs. The head is molded with black painted hair styled in waves and curls. The facial features are hand-painted, including blue eyes with fine lashes and a closed red mouth. The doll has a stuffed cloth body and white glazed porcelain lower arms and hands. The doll is dressed in a full-length red and white checkered gingham fabric dress. The dress includes a pleated bodice, a matching fabric waist sash, and ivory-toned lace trim along the collar, sleeve cuffs, and hemline. A white string is tied around the doll’s right wrist. No maker’s marks, country of origin, or other identifying stamps are visible on the porcelain surfaces.
Condition report:
The porcelain head and visible portions of the hands show no apparent chips, cracks, or repairs (photo 1). The painted facial features are crisp with no significant paint loss (photo 3). The dress fabric is intact but displays general creasing from storage. The ivory lace trim exhibits age-related discoloration and light staining, particularly at the hem and cuffs (photo 1).
