Description
This vintage two-piece oval casserole roaster is made from unglazed red earthenware clay. The vessel consists of a deep base and a fitted domed lid with a molded central handle. The exterior of both the lid and the base features an embossed relief pattern of repeating stylized teardrop motifs. The lid displays a large impressed mark in uppercase block letters reading SCHLEMMERTOPF. The unglazed finish is designed for traditional moist-heat cooking methods.
Condition report:
The baker appears in good used condition. Visible dark spots and light staining on the exterior surface are consistent with normal culinary use of porous earthenware (photo 1). A small, thin white superficial scratch is present on the lid directly below the handle (photo 1). No chips, cracks, or repairs are visible.
