Description
A framed horizontal landscape, identified as Dawn of Enlightenment by John Pitre. The work depicts a visionary scene with a large, radiant orange-red orb, either a sun or moon, as the central focal point. The celestial body illuminates a misty environment framed by dark, silhouetted trees. In the foreground, a bridge supports a procession of figures carrying illuminated torches. To the right, a classical rotunda or gazebo sits atop a rocky precipice. The piece is housed in a complex, multi-part frame featuring a wide gold-toned outer border, a broad blue-grey textile liner, a silver-toned inner molding with a beaded detail, and a narrow burgundy fillet adjacent to the image. A signature-like mark is visible in light-colored paint in the lower-left corner of the composition, and another small, illegible mark is located in the lower-right corner.
