Description
A single handled stoneware jug, identified through market consensus as a ‘Buggy Jug’ style piece by Bobby Ferguson, a notable figure in Gillsville, Ga pottery. The vessel features a squat, rounded body and a narrow neck. It is finished with a dark, mottled drip glaze exhibiting shades of gray, blue, and brown. The shoulder is heavily embellished with applied high-relief ceramic decoration representing a cluster of dark grapes and flanking leaves, finished with a metallic or bronze patina. The shoulder is incised with the text “Buggy Jug,” and the unglazed base is incised with the signature “Bobby Ferguson Gillsville, Ga.” Measures 8″ diameter and 6″ tall.
