Description
A single studio pottery mug attributed to Jerry Chappelle, founder of Happy Valley Pottery in Georgia. The piece is executed in stoneware with a tapered body and an integrated pulled handle. The glazing features layered application, including a speckled creamy white glaze covering the interior and the upper exterior rim. This transitions over a tan band to a heavily speckled, deep purple/maroon crystalline glaze covering the lower body. Stylized floral or abstract decorations in tones of green, rust red, and dusty blue are visible beneath the upper glaze layer. The base is marked with incised text reading “Chappelle” in script above “USA” in block letters.
