Lot 101:
Description
A contemporary studio pottery mug attributed to renowned potter Jerry Chappelle of Happy Valley Pottery. The vessel is hand-crafted from glazed stoneware, featuring a tapered cylindrical form with a flared rim and a thick applied handle. The lower two-thirds of the body exhibit a distinct vertically fluted or ribbed texture. The glazing utilizes a high-fired speckled cream-white glaze on the upper section and interior, which overlaps a variegated reddish-brown glaze on the fluted lower body. The transition zone displays characteristic abstract drips and patches of green and gray, typical of modern studio ceramics. The underside of the base is incised with the hand-scribed markings Chappelle and Made in USA.
