Lot 75:
Description
A hand-thrown folk art pottery pitcher attributed to the Georgia potter Grace Nell Hewell (1933-2016). The vessel features a globular body, a pronounced pinched pouring spout, and a sturdy applied loop handle. It is constructed from dark earthenware and finished with a speckled, semi-glossy dark brown/black glaze, consistent with Southern utilitarian pottery. The base is deeply impressed with stylized cursive script, confirming the maker as Grace Nell Hewell and the manufacture date. The vessel exhibits a visible texture to the clay body and is representative of the Southern folk art pottery tradition. Approximately 5″ tall.
