Lot 18:
Description
A single wooden plaque featuring pyrography artwork, signed Jason M. Smith ’13. The technique, sometimes referred to as etching, utilizes wood-burning to create the central image. The plaque is circular or slightly oval, defined by a wide, deep blue painted border surrounding a central field stained or painted in a mustard yellow-ochre hue. The artwork depicts a stylized figure, likely a representation of Freddie Mercury, in a dynamic concert pose holding a microphone stand. The figure is rendered using the pyrography technique, leaving the subject in the light, natural tone of the wood against the darker background stain. The inscription “Jason M. Smith ’13” is burned into the lower center margin of the artwork.
